El piloto Carlos Sainz (Volkswagen) ha roto otra barrera del deporte español al conquistar la 32 edición del Rally Dakar en la categoría de coches, en una jornada de clausura con 206 kilómetros cronometrados en territorio argentino entre San Rafael y la capital Buenos Aires que se saldó con la victoria de su compañero de equipo y máximo rival por la victoria, el qatarí Naser Al Attiyah (Volkswagen).
El asiático invirtió un tiempo de una hora, 19 minutos y 42 segundos, apenas 36 segundos inferior al establecido por el corredor madrileño, finalmente segundo en la especial final, y que aprovechó su ventaja de 2 minutos y 48 segundos en la general acumulada durante las dos semanas de la carrera.
La jornada de clausura, prevista con 206 kilómetros cronometrados en territorio argentino entre la localidad de San Rafael y la capital Buenos Aires, se saldó con la victoria del corredor asiático, que invirtió un tiempo de una hora, 19 minutos y 42 segundos, apenas 36 segundos inferior al establecido por el corredor madrileño, finalmente segundo en la especial final.
La etapa, que se resolvió sin dificultades por los vientos racheados que limpiaban el polvo y por las rápidas pistas, fue una de las más plácidas para el binomio nacional, que fue controlando en cada sector con una pérdida mínima la ventaja de 2 minutos y 48 segundos en la general acumulada durante las dos semanas de la carrera con Al Attiyah.
Al margen de estos dos pilotos, cuya distancia fue una de las más inferiores de la historia con 2 minutos y 12 segundos, la tercera opción de Volkswagen, el estadounidense Mark Miller, completó el podio final a 32 minutos y 51 segundos de Sainz, mientras que el francés Stéphane Peterhansel (BMW) consiguió el cuarto puesto a más de dos horas y 17 minutos del flamante campeón.
De esta forma, Sainz se convirtió en el primer español que gana el mítico 'raid' en coches, tras los triunfos en motos de Marc Coma (2006, 2009) y Nani Roma (2004). El madrileño une el Dakar a un palmarés en el que ya relucían dos ediciones del Mundial de Rallys (1990 y 1992), donde sumó otros cuatro subcampeonatos.
